Q: As we all know Dahlias originated in Mexico. What did the Aztecs in Mexico call Dahlias? |
The Aztecs cultivated
the dahlia, used them as ornamental flowers, for
medicine and as tubers to feed their animals. They had
many names for the plant, including Acocotli, or water
throat because the stems provided an emergency water
supply for hunters, Cocoxochitl (pronounced:
co-COX-oh-cheetle),
which means water pipe, and Chichipatli , bitter
medicine.
